Why wind energy?
A free and renewable source of energy
It has been harnessed since 250 BC when it was used as a source to power wind mills used for grinding cereal crops and to drive water pumps. It was first used to generate electricity in 1888 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
Wind generation has made substantial advances in recent years. With the exception of hydro-electric, where the resource has largely been exploited, wind energy has proven one of the most cost effective and reliable renewable generation technologies. This is translating into substantial growth with world-wide installed capacity increasing by over 15,000 MW in 2006, representing growth of 25%.
